Available Options

Here you will find information to help you decide which options may feel like the right fit for you.  Note: Placenta providers offer different options and methods of processing. The services offered and methods of processing used are what Nikole believes to be the safest for her clients based on research, food safety guidelines, and OSHA standards.  Please reach out with any and all questions.

Placenta Capsules

We offer three different methods of processing for creating your placenta capsules.  You can find a chart below that notes some of the differences between the methods and the outcomes.  Some clients select more than one method of processing to try out the different methods or to gain even more benefits by utilizing the advantages of each.  Placenta capsules are most often used during the initial postpartum period and can be used for years to come.  With proper handling, storage, and processing the capsules will not spoil.  Like other supplements, capsules will begin to degrade over long lengths of time and lose potency.

Methods of Processing for Encapsulation

Raw Dehydration Method
(RDM)
Steamed Dehydration Method
(SDM)
Traditional Chinese Method
(TCM)
How it’s processed: The placenta is dehydrated at 160 degrees for a minimum of 12 hours. *Raw foodist theory states no higher than 118 degrees, according to the USDA meat products are safe to dehydrate when reaching 160 degrees. The placenta is gently steamed and then dehydrated at 160 degrees for minimum of 10 hours. The blood is drained before it’s gently steamed with organic lemon, ginger, and jalapeno. Note: these herbs are not included in the capsules. It’s then dehydrated at 160 degrees for a minimum of 10 hours.
Number of Capsules: The average sized placenta using the Raw Dehydration method yields approximately 125-175 capsules. The average size placenta yields approximately 100-150 capsules. The placenta shrinks during steaming. The average placenta yields about 75-125 capsules. Placenta volume decreases with steaming and blood draining.

Placenta Tincture

Placenta Tinctures are created using a small piece of raw placenta, about a tablespoon size, that is macerated in vodka.  It’s said that the tincture has many of the same benefits of the capsules with an indefinite shelf life that does not lose potency over time.  This is a great option to have on hand when your capsules are finished.  Most clients use the tincture for hormonal imbalance, PMS symptoms, milk supply drops, migraines, menopause, sleep issues, during times of illness and stress, and so much more.  Many have also used the tincture for their children during weaning, teething, times of illness, sleep issues, first day of school anxiety, and other instances.  The tincture can also be used to create a Placenta Essence or Homeopathic Placenta Remedy that is gentler for children/infants.  Other types of alcohol for specific diets or potato vodka for gluten allergies are also available.

Frozen Smoothie Cubes

Frozen Smoothie Cubes are created by blending and freezing individual portions of raw placenta to be added to smoothies during the initial postpartum period.  Cubes are approximately one ounce and are individually wrapped in unbleached parchment paper, then bagged individually, and placed in a glass container for storage in freezer.  Blending prior to freezing helps to create a smooth texture in the final smoothie mixture for consumption.  This option is available as an add-on or stand alone service.  To view a photo of cubes being created for a client in her home, click here.

Placenta Art Prints

Placenta Art Prints are created using the blood on the surface of the placenta.  They are created on high quality acid free watercolor paper or other surfaces as desired.  At least one side of each the maternal and fetal side are made unless other options are requested.  The fetal side of the placenta shows the “tree of life” that helped to grow your precious new baby (or babies!).  You may view some prints here.  Note: It’s recommended that inks of any kind not be used on any placenta that is intended to be consumed.  Even natural dyes, like turmeric which is a very strong antibacterial and antiviral herb, can alter the ingredients
of the placenta.

Flavored Capsules

Wild Berry and Coffee flavored capsules are available upon request.  This can be a good option for those worried about any potential taste or smell.  They are made from pharmaceutical grade gelatin which is BSE free and gluten free, and also kosher and halal certified.  Note : these are not vegetarian capsules.

Placenta Broth

If your placenta capsules were processed using the Traditional Chinese Method you have the option to reserve the broth that remains after steaming.  In China, the broth is ingested by mothers in addition to the encapsulated placenta.  The broth will taste of lemon and ginger.  You can drink the broth on its own, add it to drinks like smoothies or teas, or food such as soups or chili.  Some mothers choose not to ingest the broth but to use it to water a special tree or plant.  Note: The broth needs to be used or frozen within 3 days.

Placenta Jewelry

Custom jewelry can be created with a tiny amount of your placenta powder.  We will work together to design and create your custom piece together.  Necklaces, bracelets, and key-chains are a few of the possibilities.  Options for both females and males available.  Approximately one capsule is mixed with quality resin to preserve and create these one-of-kind pieces.  This service is available included in a placenta services package or as a stand alone service.  Sample photos available here.

Other Mementos

  • The umbilical cord, if left intact, can be dehydrated and made into a heart shaped keepsake.  Other shapes, letters, or words are possible pending size and condition of the cord.  Samples can be seen on our Instagram page, like this one here.
  • Some clients have made special requests to have the membranes saved and dehydrated as well.  Depending on the condition of the membranes sometimes you can see the hole your baby made its way into the world from.
  • Many clients ask for photos to be taken before processing begins so they can see the organ that made your new little miracle possible.
  • Some clients have requested to save a small portion of the placenta to plant under a tree or honor in another way.
  • Please ask about any special requests!
